The World Will End In 2012, Again
Well, as they say, “all good things must come to an end.” And I guess, according to some experts, 2012 has been chosen as the year to pull the plug on this whole “charade” that we call “life” on planet earth.
The latest experts on the subject of ending it all, seems to be the ancient Maya Indians, who designed a calendar that ends abruptly on December 21, 2012. Mexico City has even gone so far as to install a “count down clock” to the end of the world at that precise date.
Unfortunately, this fascination with the end of all things, is not new to us Homo- sapiens. It seems that one of the by-products of “the fall” is an innate tendency to want to cut and run when the going gets hard.
Last year it was the Koreans who were setting the date to depart. In 2000 it was the computer that was going to unplug us. And of course, a preacher had to get in the act with his book “ 88 Reasons Why I Believe Jesus is coming in 1988.” Followed by his book “89 Reasons” the following year.
In some way it helps to know that all of this date setting and drum beating is not a new phenomenon. This has been going on a long time among those with little understanding or a misconception of the purpose that God has always had in His mind for the human race.
- The Sack of Rome by the Vandals, 410 AD.
- The birth of the Inquisition, 1209-44 AD.
- The Black Death that killed millions, 1347-50 AD.
All of these had one thing in common. They promoted the idea that this “certainly must be the end of the world.”
Martin Luther wrote in 1532: “The last day is at hand. My calendar has run out. I know nothing more in my scripture.”
The Lisbon earthquake of 1775 was interpreted as evidence of the Bible prophecies.
The French Revolution stirred up, once again, the interpretation designed to show that the world was entering the last days.
All of these predictions have one thing in common. They have always been wrong.
Unfortunately, the majority sees the past as a distant memory. All that seems to count is the present. “We recognize that they were wrong, but it will be different with us,” they say.
So why the rush to get out of here? If Jesus didn’t get to leave here before He was finished with His assignment, why should we be able to leave ahead of our completed assignment? We shouldn’t, and the truth is, we won’t.
Simply stated, we must have a renewed mind to the clear and direct commands that God gave us, as His creation, when this whole thing started.
The first Adam and his descendents were commanded, in Gen 1:26, to have complete authority over all the earth and every thing that moved on the earth.
In verse 28, God blessed them and said to them be fruitful, multiply and fill the earth and subdue it (with all of it’s vast resources), and have dominion over every living creature that lives on the earth.
The second Adam, Jesus Christ, was sent from heaven with this same authority to subdue and conquer. Because of this, He confessed in the book of Luke. (4:18) The Spirit of the Lord is up on me and He has anointed me to preach, release, recover, deliver, and proclaim. (subdue and dominate the world around me)
You and I, the third generation of Adam, who are called, sons of God, joint heirs and new creatures in Christ, are commanded to fulfill the same purpose in this world that the other “Adams” were commanded to fulfill.
The “GO” in Mark 16:15 and Matt 28:19 has the same voice of authority behind it that was heard in Gen 1:26. Listen to the language of this instruction to the third generation of Adams.
Preach the Gospel of the Kingdom to the whole human race. Those who believe it will have eternal life.
And here are the signs that will be happening when we are fulfilling that command to preach the Gospel of the Kingdom.
You will drive out devils, you will speak in new languages, snakes and poison won’t hurt you and you will lay your hands on the sick and they will be healed.
Then to emphasize the scope of this command Jesus added this in Matt 28:19.
Make disciples of all nations,
Teach them to observe everything that I have commanded you.
Now with all of this in mind, let me tell you exactly when “the end” will be near. It will be when we, as Kingdom people fulfill the requirements and the responsibility that we were commanded to do.
Does this sound like the end will come in 2012?
I DON”T THINK SO!
Never fear, according to Cor 15:51, that day will come. However, I have not been called to be a “navel watcher.” I have been assigned the job of disciplining nations and restoring people to new life in Christ.
For me, that has turned into a full time job. And I have discovered that I don’t have time for vain speculations about dates and events that stir up more fear and mystery than answers.
Will you join me in this great work?
